Although in the UK we like to make the most of the little sunshine we get, it can be very uncomfortable trying to work in a hot and sticky warehouse on hot summer days. If your warehouse employees are not comfortable it will affect both their morale and productivity levels. Here we have provided a few suggestions on how you can cool down your warehouse, without spending a fortune on air conditioning.
Good warehouse insulation
Whilst insulation is designed to keep the heat from escaping on cool, winter days, it also prevents cool air from escaping on summer days. It is definitely worth investing in good insulation to help control the temperature of your warehouse.
Painting the warehouse roof white
Believe it or not, painting the roof of your warehouse white can help to keep it cool! White and other light colours reflect the sunrays, preventing the heat from being absorbed.
Keep your employees cool by installing a ceiling fan in your warehouse.

Keeping the air moving
The key to a comfortable warehouse in the summer is to keep the airflow moving. If there are sections in your warehouse that are not air conditioned, make sure you install a fan to help regulate the temperature.
Vinyl strip doors
Implementing vinyl strip doors in your warehouse is a great way to prevent the cool air from your air conditioning and fans escaping. They will also allow for easy access in and out of the building, without all of the hot air being let in.
Employee hydration
Make sure that your warehouse workers and forklift drivers have access to fresh, cold water. Encouraging them to drink plenty of water will help to keep them hydrated and it is also good for the brain! It may be a good idea to install water fountains in the warehouse and make sure that there is bottled water being sold in your cafeteria.
What other suggestions do you have for keeping cool in the warehouse? We’d love to hear them!
